An Easy Birthday Cake

I prefer a two layer cake. To me they look more festive. If you have a
cake mix great, if not make one from scratch. Pour mix into 2 - 9" round
pans that have been greased and floured. Bake them at 350 degrees about 25
- 35 minutes. I can usually tell they are done by feel. If you can't put a
knife in and see if it has any batter on it. If it does it isn't done yet.
Try not to over bake it or it will be dry.

When it is done put it on a cooling rack a few minutes. Run a knife around
the edge of the cake. Then get a plate put the plate on top of the cake,
flip it and your cake should come out if not put a wet towel on the bottom
of the pan.

Now place the cake in the freezer for about 2 hours. You can leave them
upside down. A frozen cake will ice better.

Make your favorite icing or buy it. Ice the top of one cake flip the other
on it or place it on it. This is really an easy birthday cake. Now you
want to ice the sides you can use a regular knife to just put icing on and
run it around and ice the rest. Then do the top.

Now you can decorate. Either put sprinkles all the way around to decorate
or draw a circle in another color frosting fill it in and make a smiley
face. Sprinkles is an easy birthday cake idea. After you have that done

Once A Month Cooking - Hamburger Pasta Casseroles Freezer Meals

When it comes to cooking and baking, I love experimenting with once a
month cooking. This type of cooking is when you spend a day or two making
and baking up several meals for your family and then freezing them for
future use.

This recipe will make 3 large casseroles that will each feed 8 people.
They will keep in the freezer for up to 6 months. You will need three 9 x
13" rectangular foil baking pans, that I like to pick up at our local
dollar store or discount department store. After freezing, thaw the
casserole in your refrigerator for 6-8 hours and then reheat in the oven
for 20 minutes before serving.

Hamburger Pasta Casserole

4 lbs. lean ground beef
1 lb. thin sausage links, sliced into bite-sized pieces
2 cups onions, finely chopped
2 cups celery, finely chopped
1 1/4 cup green pepper, finely chopped
16-18 ounces pasta noodles
3 cans tomato soup
4 1/4 cups shredded American Cheese
12 ounce bottle chili sauce
1/4 cup pimento, chopped
2 teaspoons table salt
2 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups water
4 1/2 cups bread crumbs
1/4 cup butter, melted (not margarine)

In a very large frying pan, cook the lean ground beef, sausage links,
onion, celery and green pepper until the ground beef is brown and no
longer pink. Drain off fat. Cook your desired pasta noodles according to
box directions, drain water and set aside. In a large stock pot, add your
cooked pasta noodles and meat mixture. Stir in the tomato soup, cheese,
chili sauce, chili powder, chopped pimento, salt, pepper and water.

Split the mixture up into 3 equal portions. Place mixture into each of
your baking pans. In a small bowl, combine the bread crumbs with melted
butter. Sprinkle seasoned bread crumbs on top of the casserole mixture.

exactly 3 minutes, stirring constantly with a silicone spatula. Remove
from heat, stir in the marshmallow cream and peanut butter. Pour into a
square 8 x 8" foil pan. Let cool before cutting.

3 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup butter
2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 (12 ounce) bag of chocolate chips
2 cups marshmallow creme

boil stirring constantly and boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in
the chocolate chips until they are completely melted and then stir in the

foil pan to cool.

G.I. Joe The Rise Of Cobra Wii Game-A Lot Of Action

The Wii Really provides an excellent format for playing this game. Filled
with action just as with the movie, G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra, brings to
life two of the 80s characters in this collaboration between the toy maker
Hasbro and Paramount pictures. Their first collaboration was Transformers
and that was such a big hit both on the big screen and in the gaming
community that they decided to give it a try again, hoping to produce
perhaps an even bigger hit than transformers.

Everyone is flocking to the theaters to see this action-packed movie with
lots of modern gadgets with a twist of humor that makes the film even a
bigger family hit. Now with the release of the movie to the big screen EA
games has released G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra Wii Game, and honestly it is
full of action both in the hand to hand fighting sequences as well as in
the overall action of the characters. You can ride on top of vehicles and
jump from vehicle to vehicle all the time firing away while in pursuit of
your target.

As you would probably expect, G.I. Joe, together with his team have to
save us all from the Cobra team. On Joe's team there are 12 tough guys.
Duke and Gungo Ho are two of my personal favorites because I like the
weapons that they have to use. Each guy has different moves and weapons.
That helps you from getting bored really. Those bad Cobra guys are
wreaking all sorts of havoc and general chaos. They must be stopped.

The game also has its own unique storyline which varies somewhat from the
movie although the key moments from the film are still present. You have
the ability to unlock more Cobra players as you play which also makes the
game play more interesting and challenging. In two player mode you and a
friend can play together and can form your own G.I. Joe team and can
choose to call in select other players to help and support you.

3 eggs
1/3 cup milk
1 tbsp instant espresso powder
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine the cookie crumbs and butter. Press
the mixture into bottom and 1-inch up the side of a 9-inch spring form
pan; set aside.

In a small saucepan, melt one cup of the mini chips over low heat,
stirring constantly. In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and
sugar together until well blended using medium speed of an electric mixer.
Add eggs, milk, espresso powder, and cinnamon; beat on low speed until
well blended. Add melted chips; beat on medium speed 2 minutes. Spoon into
the crust. Bake 55 minutes. Remove from oven and set on a wire rack to
cool. Cool for 15 minutes then using a knife, loosen cake from the sides
of the pan. Cool completely then remove the side of the pan. Cover cake
and refrigerate at least 4 hours before serving. Before serving, garnish
with the Espresso Cream, recipe follows, and the remaining mini chips.

Espresso Cream: Beat 1/2 cup cold whipping cream, 2 tbsp powdered sugar,
and 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder until stiff.

How To Make Classic Chili And Bean-Less Chili Recipes

When it comes to making chili, I enjoy making it all year long. During the
summertime, its a nice family dinner that doesn't require the use of an
oven on a long hot summer day. During the winter, chili is a great meal
during those long dark cold winter days.

The first recipe is a classic recipe...but the second one is a Texas-style
bean-less version. If you enjoy making freezer meals, I would suggest
using the first recipe as it freezes well for future meals. Each one will
feed 4-6 people.

Classic Chili Recipe

2 lbs. lean ground beef
1 clove garlic, minced
2 medium onions, finely chopped
1 1/2 teaspoons table salt
2 tablespoons chili powder
1/4 teaspoon red cayenne pepper
dash of cloves
2 large cans kidney beans plus juice
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
2 teaspoons basil
4 cups tomato juice
1 can crushed tomatoes

Note: If you like it really spicy, you can increase the chili powder to 4
tablespoons.

In a large skillet, brown your lean ground beef with minced garlic and
finely chopped onions until ground beef is no longer pink. Drain grease
from beef and set aside. In a large stock pot, combine all of the above
ingredients including the spices. Stir in the browned ground beef. Turn
heat to low and simmer for approximately 45 minutes or until its done.

Bean-less Beef Chili

2 lbs. lean boneless beef chuck
1/4 cup salad oil
1 large onion, finely chopped
3 green peppers, diced
3 cloves garlic, crushed
2 (28 ounce) cans tomatoes
1 (12 ounce) can tomato paste
3 tablespoons chili powder
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons table salt
1 tablespoon oregano
1 teaspoon crushed red peppers
3 cups water
1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese for garnishing

Rinse and cut beef chuck into 1" cubes and set aside. In a large stock
pot, heat salad oil over medium heat and add in the beef cubes. Brown beef
cubes on all sides until they are no longer pink. Remove beef cubes and
set aside. Stir chopped onions, green pepper and garlic in the stock pot
for 10 minutes over medium heat, stirring every 2-3 minutes. Return the
beef cubes to the stock pot and then add in the can of tomatoes with
liquid and remaining ingredients, except for the cheese. Bring to a boil
and then reduce heat to a simmer, cover stock pot and cook over low heat
for 1 hour or until done. Ladle chili into bowls and sprinkle Monterey
Jack cheese on top.

How does weight lifting compare to cardio on caloric burn?

As a personal trainer I get asked this question very often, I have
literally spoken with hundreds of thousands of people in my 20+ year
career that were interested in losing weight and feeling better about
themselves.

And my answer is,

It is weight training by a big, big margin because of the Triple H effect

Heat When you exercise, your muscles increase in activity (metabolism) and
a by product of energy consumption is heat. Actually a calorie is a
scientific measurement of heat. One Calorie is equivalent to the energy
needed to raise one gram of water one degree Celsius. That is why when we
increase our activity level we get hot and sweaty. Now, let the truth be
said, during cardio exercise you will burn more calories per minute than
if you were to do weight training. So that is why people that are
misinformed always tend to gravitate towards doing cardiovascular exercise
to lose weight. The underlying truth is that clinical tests have shown
that your metabolism stays elevated for no more than a 60 minute period
after doing cardio training, in comparison to several hours after when you
do weight lifting. So in my professional opinion even in head to head
daily caloric burn, weight training will burn more calories throughout the
day.

Heal Now this is where weight lifting starts to pull ahead. When you do
weight lifting you are actually causing microtrauma to the muscles that
are being targeted. Microtrauma is what makes your body respond and then
your immune system and hormonal system take over to heal those muscle
fibres. When it does heal them, it does it by making them stronger, thus
your instant strength gain. But in order for your body to heal them, it
has to burn calories, unlike cardio training where the muscle fibres that
are targeted do not need much energy to be used for the healing process.
So due to the muscle recovery that is needed you will burn extra calories.
That is why you can not train the same muscle groups through weight
training until they are fully recovered (3-5 days). Unlike cardio, where
you can and should do on a daily basis for a strong and healthy
cardiovascular system.

Have In order to sustain your newly acquired muscle you need to feed it,
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's a non stop eating machine, what does
it eat you ask? Your fat of course. Now what I am about to reveal to you
is the magic pill of fat loss. When you heal your muscles after weight
training your body is in what's called an anabolic state. Anabolic state
means that your body is building muscle and that is why performance
enhancing drugs are called anabolic steroids. Now don't freak out because
I used the word steroids. Because you don't need to take steroids, your
body naturally produces anabolic hormones on its own, putting you in a
natural anabolic state after you lift weights. A catabolic state is when
your body produces muscle deteriorating hormones to break down muscle
tissue, this where we get the saying "use it or lose it". Now there is a
big polarization in the science community about how many extra calories
are burned per day at rest by a kilo of added muscle. I have read studies
that have shown as high as 110 calories per day, to as low as 12 calories
per day. Let's for arguments sake we take the middle and say that an added
kilo of muscle will burn an additional 50 calories per day. Let's do the
math, 50 x 7days = 350 calories per week per kilo. If you replace 5 kilos
of fat with 5 kilos of muscle, you will weigh exactly the same but you
will burn an additional 1750 calories per week (5 kilos x 50 x 7 days).
Now that's 1750 calories more than your last cardio workout burned, isn't
it? Now you should have a good understanding why weight lifting and the
triple H is king when it comes to fat loss and caloric burn.

crabmeat)
1/2 cup ricotta cheese
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 (12-ounce) package wonton wrappers
1 egg, beaten
1 cup milk
1 (1.3-ounce) package creamy tomato sauce mix (recommended: Knorr)
2 tablespoons butter
Chopped parsley, for garnish

Directions

Drain crabmeat, reserving liquid. In a small bowl, combine crabmeat,
cheese, and Italian seasoning. Brush a wonton wrapper with the beaten egg.
Place about 1/2 teaspoon crab mixture in the center, and fold wrapper
diagonally to create a triangle. Press edges to seal. Transfer to a
flour-dusted baking sheet. Repeat until all of crab filling has been used;
this should make about 32 ravioli.

Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Meanwhile, in a large saucepan,
combine milk and reserved drained crab liquid over medium-high heat. Whisk
in sauce, add butter, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer,
stirring frequently, for 3 minutes. Keep sauce warm over low heat while
you boil the ravioli. In batches of 8, drop ravioli into boiling water.
Cook for 2 minutes, or until ravioli rise to the surface. With a slotted
spoon, carefully transfer ravioli to sauce. Repeat until all ravioli are
cooked. Divide ravioli equally among 8 plates. Sprinkle with parsley and
serve.
